THE WENLOCK AND ESSEX...

A welcome addition to the Islington drinking scene, The Wenlock & Essex is a cross between a bar and a pub. The interiors are fabulously tacky and the backroom which can be hired out for free (with a bar spend of £2000) is a great place to host a party. The walls are lined with naked dancing girls made from neon lights and there is definitely a Las Vegas strip club vibe about the room. The main areas are very spacious and there are lots of quirky little details which add to the pub’s charm. The windows open right along the front to make the most of the summer sun but, should you want to you can also sit outside along the sidewalk.

They serve great food as well including Sunday lunch (always a bonus!) and for the rest of the month it is 50% off the whole menu! Check it out.

THE BLUES KITCHEN CAMDEN...

Situated at the quieter end of Camden High Street away from the hordes of tourists, The Blues Kitchen is one of Camden’s best kept secrets. With live Rhythm and Blues music on every night the bar is constantly buzzing with the coolest Londoners, skinniest jeans and biggest hair.

The bar has great décor. Leather booths surround the walls, pictures of famous jazz musicians are dotted throughout, and a mass of weird and wonderful lights hang from the ceilings. There is even enough room to dance should you feel the need!

As a blues bar, the bar specializes in Bourbons, Ryes and Tennessee whiskeys but also has a great selection of reasonably prices cocktails £7.50 including a couple of signature ones. The bar is open until 3am at a weekends and 1am most week nights, a great alternative to those sweaty nightclubs your frequented as a teenager. The Bar serves a selection of American Soul food until 10:30pm which is good for soaking up all of those cocktails.

Check out the future events online, past acts have included Pete Doherty. But beware you will need to get tickets in advance for the bigger shows.

WE ARE GOING TO WAR...

For those Street Fighter fans amongst us now is your chance to take part in a real life street war. Well a war using water, but a war all the same. The war will take place in London on August 20th and lasts for 3 weeks. For £40 wanna be assassins can register online as either a lone player or part of a team. Once registered you receive an envelope with information on your target including name, photo, email, contact number, work address and home address.

Knowing some random had all of that information on me would scare me more than the actual game! Your mission is to find and kill (by way of water gun, water balloon or super soaker) your target. You can hunt your target down any way you see fit; you can pose as a delivery person and jack them when they open the door, disguise yourself and take them out on the street, etc. Just be careful not to get arrested.

If you are successful in your assassination attempt, the person you killed will give you their envelope, thus your new target. This continues until you are the last man standing. And the prize? Enough cash to take a much needed holiday.

If this sounds like your idea of fun register now online. But be quick registration closes July 24th.

LONDON FIELDS RADIO...

London Fields is the stomping ground for Fashion-‘East’ers and creative types due to its chilled out vibes and cheap rents. The park is surrounded by a host of independent local cafes, restaurants and bars. But it gets better London Fields even has its own local radio station, London Fields Radio with global appeal, catering for the community of the area. They describe their shows as “a specialist nature with a focus on culture, entertainment, good conversation and good music.” They even give Joe public the chance to get involved by emailing them show ideas through the website.

What makes it unique is the fact that the radio is broadcast live from Wilton Way Café. Blink and you might miss the ON AIR sign in the cafes window. Go inside the café and you will find a radio booth situated in the corner with a presenter in full swing whilst people sit around sipping flat whites over their newspapers.

Nestled in central Hackney just north of London Fields and east of The Hackney Empire, Wilton Way Cafe serves smooth Antipodean flat white coffee using a bespoke blend of roasted beans from local roasters Climpson & Sons, and tasty simple food inspired by our favourite cafés throughout the world with ingredients that are as local and fresh as possible.

The Cafe continues its links to the local creative community by showcasing artistic talent.

NOEL FIELDING ART

Fans of Noel, art and er cake should get down to Maison Bertaux Patisserie in the heart of Soho.

The tiny cafe is drowned in Noel's creations. They are displayed everywhere: on the stairs, in the toilet and even hung to the walls. All shapes, sizes and colours which incapulate the whirling nonsence that make up the mind of The Mighty Boosh star.

Expect to see the Ramones, Elvis, lots of skulls, Jagger and Bryan Ferry (of course) along with other characters from the tv show.

Well they weren’t they were just watching but you catch my drift. If Kung Fu films are your thing get down to The Drunken Monkey, Shoreditch for the Bare Hand, Bare Foot Movie club every other Wednesday night from 8pm.

The bar will be decked out with red Chinese lanterns, high ceilings and dark corners, so movie goers can feel like they are within a real 1970’s Kung Fu film set.

The movies will be screened on the venue’s projector and bespoke sound system to add to the atmosphere. Just don’t go karate chopping the barman, he might not like it!
