PORTOBELLO BREWING COMPANY...

The trend for craft beer shows no signs of slowing down, with another independent brewery opening in West London this year. The Portobello Brewing Company is now up and running, providing three new beers to drinkers, with another coming soon.

Aiming to provide beers as diverse and vibrant as the area they operate in, this is the largest capacity brewery in this part of London since the Notting Hill Brewery closed in 1922. Portobello Pale is a smooth, refreshing golden 4% beer with citrus aromas, while Portobello Star is a traditional 4.3% cask beer with hints of berries and roasted coffee. Portobello Market Porter is also available now with and Portobello Lager set to be available from April.

As a craft brewery, these beers will be produced in relatively small quantities, produced with care by real enthusiasts. The products will then be on sale in speciality beer houses and pubs, bars and restaurants up and down the Portobello Road, and further afield around London. Look out for the range of beers now, a real treat for beer connoisseurs and a welcome addition to London's burgeoning craft beer scene.

This is all in the form of newly opened Cocktail Club, Looking Glass which sits on number 49 hackney Road and is the new joint from the peeps behind White Rabbit. B.Y.O.C OPENS...

There's a new cocktail bar in town, with a twist. This place is alcohol free, and it's up to you to bring the tipple of your choice. We do love a BYO, but realistically if you want a Margarita or a Mojito, it calls for the big shop and we don't want to be trekking around central London with 10 Morrison bags on show.. dropping your lemons down the seven dials.

Rock up at the secret unadvertised doorway, with your spirit(s) of choice and the in-house mixologist will conjure up your made to order cocktails. Its £20 per person which gets you two hours of his time and access to the trolley of delight where things really get mixed up (excuse the pun)! With everything from herbs and spices to fresh fruits, and cordials, bitters and syrups, you'll be sure to get your classics from the swarve Daiquiri to the dirty Sex On The Beach!

Due to the licence (or lack of) make sure bottles are unopened before you get in (there is a Tesco around the corner), also may be worth checking the cocktail ingredients, ain't no Drambuie in a porn star martini babes.

PLAYBOY CLUB...

Last month London On The Inside went along to the Playboy Club. Yep, every teenage boy's dream...we are no longer teenagers but the bunnies still made us blush. Housed in swanky Mayfair just off Park Lane, the club is filled with the sort of scenery you find in the movies - Hollywood movies not those of the X rated category either it's actually not as trashy as one would imagine.

After a tour from the Head Bunnies, yes we'll stop rubbing it in soon, but she did have a friend with her, so yeah two bunnies, with little white tails and everything, we headed to the Salvatore bar. The bar is run by the Salvatore Calabrese who happens to be one of the world's best bar tenders and to our surprise he was in the house we day we visited. We went for the Bunny Bubbles, a raspberry champagne cocktail as sweet as the bunnies themselves.

After drinks we headed to The Dining Room where we were impressed by Hand Dived Scottish Scallops, Tuna Sashimi with jalapeno and shallot salsa and The Playboy Burger of course. Then it was down to Baroque where Two Door Cinema Club were playing an intimate show. The club itself is pretty plush and was packed out with trendy, young things including Mercury Prize winners Alt J.

This club is open to none members but tables don't come cheap so you might need to put it on expenses that said the restaurant is open to none members and has a 3 course special menu for £30....Oh and did we mention the bunnies? Oh yeah, we did.

NEWS: STOKE NEWINGTON AIRPORT IS CLOSING

First up EFES lost its licence and now we hear the legendary Stoke Newington International Airport building is to be torn down, demolished and the site developed into probably housing. What next Harry Style's moving into the hood?!

For 5 years STK has been one of the best kept secrets in London and has had just about every type of performance, music and party know to man go on under its roof. We were lucky enough to get down to the Topman CTL events a year or two ago. It will be sadly missed, but in all circumstances like this we need to do it proud and give it a good send off.

And so STK will be open every weekend until its Easter closing and will compile a list of events for all to be involved with. If you are interested in helping out, from performing to bloody garbing a paint brush and dressing it up for the night then get in touch. For more info and to see what's announced as the weekend develop keep an eye on their site here.

JOURNEY'S END AT GREENWICH THEATRE...

Following sell out performances of Spring Awakening, Lord of the Flies and The History Boys, Sell A Door Theatre Company have brought RC Sherriff's anti-war classic, Journey's End, back to the stage for a nine day run at Greenwich Theatre.

First produced in 1928 with Laurence Olivier as the lead, the play tells a story of bravery and brotherhood among a group of officers on the front line during the First World War. Directed by David Hutchinson, this go-round offers a solid character-driven experience by a worthy ensemble of actors. Stanhope, the officers' flawed but well intentioned Captain (David Alywyn); the stoic and elder 'uncle' Osborne (superbly played by Liam Smith); the snivelling Hibbert (Adam Fletcher) – the motivations (or often lack of any) of Sherriff's characters hold up well even after 85 years. With an innovative two tier set, designer Kemey Lafond presents a voyeuristic opportunity to look inside the trenches as one might peer into an ant farm.

Above ground events result in deep consequences down in the dug-out. The scurrying and decisive actions below seem desperately futile, and all the more heroic, when viewed from outside the set's frame. A light hearted romp it ain't, and – as the play's title might suggest – there is no happy ending. Still, plenty of laugh out loud moments keep utter despair at bay. Steven George as the good natured and seemingly happy-go-lucky Trotter competently delivers comic relief to the cast and to the audience and offers a lesson in how best to cope in the worst of times. Journey's End runs until Sunday 17 February - So if you want to go get down there sharpish!

Evening tickets costs £17.50, £15 for concessions. All matinees tickets are £12.50.

MIZUWARI WHISKY BAR OPENS...

Down beneath the city, in the heart of Soho lies Mizuwari, a brand spanking new Japanese whisky bar which opens this week. The bar serves only Japanese whisky - the clues in the name - and is modelled on the izakayas in Japan, it offers a bottle keep service and grilled tapas style dishes from the Japanese restaurant Bincho handily located above.

For those who prefer tipples a little less harsh than just whisky and water there is also a cracking cocktail list to work your way through created with the help of Suntory Whisky, the God Fathers of Japanese whisky. Or if you ask nice the barman will knock you something up. We'd recommend the Strawberry Surprise alongside some of the fried chicken with panzo sauce. SORTED!

Opens Thurs 7th Feb
16 Old Compton Street, W1D 4TL
