WILFRED BAGSHAWE'S TIME EMPORIUM

What does 2013 have in store? Will it be a classic year or somewhat of a disappointment? Will it be a year to remember, or will it leaving you wishing that you could turn the clock back and travel back in time to another era? Well a one of experience this March will give you the experience to travel back in time and see what history was really like, maybe you'll fall in love with the past or maybe historical terrors will leave you wanting to go back to the future...

This may disappoint some, but Wilfred Bagshawe's Time Emporium is not actually a real time machine, in fact it is an immersive theatrical experience at the Village Underground in Shoreditch. Many similar experiences leave you the punter as a mere spectator, observing the action unfold, but this promises to be more experiential and allow you to get involved. Following your adventure through time, you will also have entry to the after party with internationally-renowned DJs spinning tunes until 4am.

The action takes place on Saturday 23rd March as you are invited through the shabby entrance of Mr Bagshawe's Victorian shop front. From there, you will visit key events in human history, avoiding danger and attempting to find an ancient artifact. This event has been organised by the team behind Gloucestershire's Winterwell Festival, which this year had a wild west fancy dress theme, so they know a thing or two about dressing up. Wilfred Bagshawe's Time Emporium promises to be something very different than your usual Saturday night out in this part of town or indeed in this century...

SINGLETON SENSORIUM...

Word up whisky lovers the Singleton Sensorium lands in Soho next week creating the world’s first multi-sensory science experiment into the effect of environment on the taste of whisky. What does that mean? Well it means that on Wednesday and Thursday you will be able to see how sounds, smells, visuals and spaces effect the flavours of The Singleton single malt whisky.

The Singleton Sensorium is part of a wider study ‘Tasting Notes: Assessing the effect of the multisensory atmosphere and ambiance on people’s perception of whisky’, which will be published in September 2013. This event provides an opportunity to take the latest findings from the laboratory and test them in a more realistic (and fun) setting. Want to get involved? Then email Charles Spence at laboratory@condimentjunkie.co.uk to apply with your preferred date.  Over 25s only.

MOONSHINE APP LAUNCHES...

Being from the North we're all too familiar with that feeling of needing another drink when the bar is closing. Back in the day we had Dial A Drink and now we have Moonshine. The new app which costs just 69p and uses your location to show you nearby bars, clubs and pubs that are open and exactly how much time you have before they shut. So the next time you hear the bell ringing at the bar fear not Moonshine "laughs in the face of last orders" or so the website says.

No more nights cut short, just don't use it on a school night or blame us for the hangovers/credit card bills either...

CINEMA: GOOD VIBRATIONS

A film we're looking forward to comes out in cinemas on the 29th March, Good Vibrations is the heartwarming, uplifting real life story of Terri Hooley and his Belfast based record store "Good Vibrations".

When the bloody conflict known as the Troubles shuts down his city and all of his friends take sides and take up arms, Terri opens a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe and calls it Good Vibrations. Through it he discovers a compelling voice of resistance in the city’s nascent underground punk scene. Galvanising the young musicians into action, he becomes the unlikely leader of a motley band of kids and punks who join him in his mission to create a new community, an Alternative Ulster, to bring his city back to life.

THE HOUSE OF ROXY IS OPEN...

We don't often venture all the way to Putney but last week we made an exception for the opening of The House of Roxy. Just a short walk down Upper Richmond Road, it’s in zone 2 but actually feels like you're in Richmond. On the ground floor is the light, open space which contains the restaurant, but downstairs is where the real fun begins. A small, but lively bar is the real House of Roxy. Exposed brick walls with graffiti style art, a spirit packed bar and magnums of champagne that sit behind a caged wall - dying to be bought or maybe just behind bars because the price is so criminal…

House music fills the space and there’s enough room to bust a few moves, just don’t be going all Gangnam Style. We had the pleasure of trying Xero vodka, a Polish and British collaboration of flavours. The vodka is produced and filtered using only the best techniques in Poland, then in the UK, it is macerated with the finest 100% natural ingredients, which is then bottled and set in a frozen case, meaning the vodka is always perfect to serve. We tried the pear and raspberry flavours which were a little too easy to drink. Shots aside, the cocktail menu is full of complex classics with twist, our favourite had to be Roxy’s Grapevine – a deliciously fruity martini.

Roxy is a good time girl, who will definitely be keeping the punters of Putney very happy.

KARAOKE BOX X SMITHFIELD

Joined by some of our favourite soul sisters we went down to Karaoke Box at Smithfield's for some Saturday night singing action and we loved it. OK so we admit we're definitely not your next Jennifer Lopez or Rihanna but after a few of Karaoke Box's cracking cocktails we definitely thought we could be! With 9,000 songs to choose from you can blast out a bit of Whitney, Ja Rule (yes, yes we have our guilty pleasures!) or some of the Arctic Monkeys...you do have to share the mic's don't be taking along any hoggers!

The venue itself is located in a basement, with no less than 16 rooms kitted out with leather seats and lights on a dimmer to set the mood...come on you gotta turn them down when it comes to those sexy Marvin Gaye numbers. Plus there was even a counter in ours which was great for those ballads, when you need to sit high and sing tall. There's waitress service to the booth to stop you drying out with all that singing and there's pizzas too if you get a bit peckish. Bloody hell what more could you ask for?

Karaoke Box have other venues in Soho and Mayfair too which offer a similar thing. Grab a mic and a bunch of mates and book a booth! Prices start from £20 per hour, split by four and it's cheaper than a gym sesh, and you burn more calories....or perhaps that's just us.

SPONSORED POST: PERONI VIVI IN STILE...

Gone are the days of carry around heavy guide books and endlessly flicking the pages to find out which hotels it is you want to stay in and restaurants you can eat it. Now to find out what's hot and what's not we have the Internet and what's more when you're on the move we have the app...

Whilst there are tons of lifestyle apps out there, we've recently been tasked with trying one out, introducing Peroni's Vivi in Style. The app features hidden lifestyle and fashion gems which have been written by a host of top bloggers and journalists. We gave it the test of taking us out around HQ one Saturday and we're pretty pleased with the recommendations from coffee at Tina We Salute You to shopping in LN-CC and dinner at Trullo. What's more we even discovered a few things on our doorstep which we never even knew existed - TwentyTwentyOne and Neo at the Barbican.

There's also a handy inspiration section with everything from interviews with top chefs to fashion trend pieces. Oh and it's not just London either they also cover Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and Bristol - sorted.

It's free to download on both Apple and Android.

THE 3 MONKEYS IS OPEN...

Home to plenty of London’s trendy young professionals, Balham has been in dire need of a decent cocktail joint for a while, so it was no surprise that when we stepped into brand new bar The 3 Monkeys, the place was heaving to capacity.

This cosy venue has plenty to draw in both the locals and Balham newbies; friendly bartenders, a relaxed party vibe and a long cocktail list. And if that’s not enough, for those that have had enough mojitos to get their courage levels up, The Monkey Lounge in the basement offers karaoke by Lucky Voice. Complete with a dressing up box and array of instruments, even the wallflowers of the world will be getting ready to swagger likeJagger along with the best of us.

The cocktails at The 3 Monkeys are top notch, and with over 70 to chose from, you're spoilt for choice. Our undisputed favourite was the Firefly; a lychee-infused, spicy mix of chilli and vodka that packed a fiery punch.

The 3 Monkey guys have also come up with some fun nights to keep the crowds happy every night of week; pop along on a Tuesday when selected tequila cocktails are £3, while the 2ndand 4th Wednesday of each month is Comedy Night. These clever little monkeys really have thought of everything!

THE MONARCH

The Monarch has new owners which sees the people behind Nambucca, FROG, The Flowerpot and The Wheelbarrow take the reins of the famous Camden Town bar and venue. Their opening antics saw a secret show from Folk Punk Superhero FRANK TURNER followed by a DJ set by Justin Young from THE VACCINES who headed to the venue for the DEAP VALLEY after party along with BEN LOVETT and KING CHARLES. Pretty scene-star-setting if you ask us.

'The Monarch promises to be a forward thinking, unpretentious venue with an 'anything-goes' approach to programming, as well as offering tasty, affordable food in a spacious and comfortable pub atmosphere.' I am sure we'll be along soon to bite into a tasty burger. Keep an eye out for the rather tasty looking events they have coming up too...
